Retroanastomotic hernias subsequent to gastrojejunal anastomosis are rare but are associated with high mortality since they frequently are not recognized and treated promptly.
Since 1897, peirodic publications have reported 178 cases of retroanastomotic herniations, but many -more must have occured.
This report presents the successful management of the conditions of four additional patients
for the purpose of recalling surgeons to this iatrogenic and preventable, hernia.
Closure of the internal hernial ring at the time of the initial gastric operation prevents, the
formation eff retroanastomotic hernia.
The literatures on this subjects are reviewed.
